The management of Osun State University Teaching Hospital has called for calm from the hospital community and staff over the effect of a rainstorm which occurred on Friday.
The rainfall, which was accompanied by a heavy windstorm, affected some buildings and damaged some staff vehicles.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Babatunde Afolabi, in a statement, said the rainfall completely removed the roof over the IHVN Building.
The rainfall also affected an adjacent portion of the fittings of the Amenity Building. Nearby structures—including electric cables, streetlight poles, and six staff vehicles- were also affected.
Afolabi who noted that no individual was injured during the incident, said the reconstruction of the affected areas has commenced, adding that the hospital would also provide appropriate support for the staff whose vehicles were damaged during the incident.
“Please be assured that clearing of debris and displaced roofing materials is already in progress. The Works Department and its technical team are fully on site and are working with urgency to ensure the area is secured and made safe.
“The structural integrity of the buildings remains intact, as the structure has a deck beneath the removed roofing. Before the end of this weekend, the venue and its surroundings will be fully cleared and made safe for use.
“Moreover, we will use this opportunity to erect the full structure into the two-story building for which it was originally designed, improving the facility for the long-term benefit of our hospital.
“We also wish to reassure all affected vehicle owners that the hospital management is committed to assessing the damages and providing appropriate support and guidance to address the situation.
“All staff are kindly advised to avoid the affected areas until clearance and safety assessments are fully completed,” the statement noted.
