Aregbesola’s loyalists slam FG for releasing LG funds to APC council chairmen

By Tunde Olamilekan

Omoluabi Progressives, a group loyal to the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has faulted the release of the withheld local government allocations to the council officials elected under the All Progressives Congress.

The group noted that the court has sacked the APC council chairmen, adding that those elected under the Peoples Democratic Party in the February 22 election were authentic council officials.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, the chairman of the group, Isa Adesiji, accused the federal government of choosing to perpetrate fascism instead of upholding the rule of law.

The group also warned the APC council chairmen not to touch the allocations paid into their accounts, adding that the federal government must stop treating Osun people’s resources as the APC’s political war chest.

He said, “The judgment which nullified the APC elected remains valid and binding. APC’s attempt to build legality on the election it conducted based on a technical victory over a pre-election matter at the expense of a judgment that nullified the election outrightly is laughable and the height of political rascality.

“Yet, the federal government, instead of upholding the law, has chosen to perpetrate fascism by starving duly elected local government executives of their statutory funds and diverting billions of naira into an illegal account opened in the name of these Yes or No illegal chairmen.

“This unconscionable act amounts to a declaration of war against the Nigerian Constitution and against the people of Osun State in particular. It is a dangerous precedent where the federal government, acting with impunity, disregards valid court judgements in order to entrench its party’s rejected cronies in power.”
