The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress will win the 2026 governorship election in Osun State.
Oyetola, who spoke in Iragbiji, Osun State, on Monday at an event to mark his 71st birthday, attributed his optimism to the current unity within the APC and urged members to remain steadfast in ensuring the party’s progress.
The former Osun governor, who was joined by dignitaries including the Asiwaju Musulumi of South-West, Edo and Delta states, Dr. Olatunde Badmus, and governorship aspirants on the APC platform such as the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, Bola Oyebamiji, and Prince Dotun Babayemi, said victory for the party in 2026 would be easier to achieve if members maintained a united front.
“By God’s special grace, our party will emerge victorious in the forthcoming 2026 gubernatorial election. I thank God for the way things are going with our party, how we have been able to stand in unity. I want to encourage us to continue in that suit and ensure that peace and unity reign in the party, because that is how we can emerge victorious in 2026,” Oyetola said.
Reassuring members of his support, he also advised youths in the state to remain focused, avoid drug abuse and hooliganism, and stay committed to serving God.
“We are doing our own quota; I encourage you to do yours as well. To the youth, I want you to be focused and dedicated to your work. Fear God, for it is God who earned me the position I am in today. Don’t be involved in thuggery. We didn’t get involved in drug abuse before attaining this height. Please stay away from drugs because they only lead to mental health issues,” he added.
In his sermon at the event, the Chief Imam of Offa, Alhaji Muideen Salman, emphasised the importance of forgiveness in communal living and urged people to embrace peace and unity.
Osun State is scheduled to hold its governorship election on August 8, 2026. Incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke is expected to seek re-election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Meanwhile, several aspirants have already indicated interest in contesting for the APC ticket, raising concerns about potential division within the party. The opposition, however, has assured that the internal contest will be managed without threatening its cohesion.
