The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola has reasserted his leadership of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State following the release of the withheld local government allocations to the council Chairmen elected under the party.
It would be recalled that there has been a tussle over the leadership of the local governments with chairmen elected under the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party claiming to be the authentic council officials.
The tussle led to the seizure of local government allocations since February with the leadership of both parties working to ensure it was their members who got the funds.
However, indications emerged yesterday evening that the APC might have won the battle with the seized allocations reported to have been paid to the chairmen elected under the party.
This victory, according to political analysts, has not only asserted Oyetola, who is believed to be behind the payment of the funds to the APC chairmen as the leader of the party in Osun, but also ensures he has a say in who picks the ticket of the party for next year’s governorship election.
According to the political analysts, members of the party will now respect Oyetola and see the former governor of Osun State as the major rallying point.
Commenting on the development, Bello Olayinka said, “Oyetola may have won the biggest battle as the All Progressives Congress, APC, prepares for the gubernatorial primaries.
“The payment of the withheld local government allocations to the APC chairmen will make it easier for Oyetola to have his way with the rank and file of the party.
“He has asserted his leadership and shown that when it comes to the scheme of things at the federal level, he is not a pushover. That is what members of a party want. He will command more respect now.”
