The reported endorsement of the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, Bola Oyebamiji, by the immediate past governor of Osun State, Mr Gboyega Oyetola as the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress is causing disquiet in the party.
In what seems to be a show of total support for the former Commissioner of Finance, a big banner of the APC gubernatorial aspirant has been placed in front of the ‘Ilerioluwa’ campaign office belonging to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy in Osogbo.
The banner had pictures of President Bola Tinubu as well as that of Mr Oyetola alongside Oyebamiji.
Also, supporters of the ‘Ambo’ movement, a political name for the realisation of Oyebamiji’s governorship ambition have been celebrating the development on social media.
However, the move has been condemned by loyalists and supporters of other gubernatorial aspirants who noted that the Minister has not shown true leadership quality with the development.
The supporters claimed Oyetola was already showing bias as the leader of the party, noting that the development, if not properly managed, could lead to further division among party members.
Some of the APC supporters who commented on social media claimed the banners would not have been placed if Oyetola had not approved it.
They also recalled that Oyebamiji held his official declaration at the Ilerioluwa campaign office as against going to the party secretariat.
They also called on the party leadership and Igbimo Agba to ensure a level playing ground for the aspirant and call the Minister to order.
More than 10 people have shown interest in contesting the APC gubernatorial ticket. However, the latest development might have shown where the former governor is pitching his tent.
