Fadahunsi empowers 300, says employment remains panacea to poverty, insecurity

The senator representing Osun east in the national assembly,Senator Francis Fadahunsi, has described employment generation as the most potent weapon against criminalities and hard biting poverty in the Nigerian society.

Fadahunsi attributed the culture of begging in the society and criminal tendencies like kidnapping, banditry, robbery and insurgency to joblessness within the ranks of youths of productive age.

To this end, the Senator has demonstrated commitment to empowering the people of his senatorial district through training for 300 youth and women to reduce poverty and crime.

The training programme, which was held simultaneously in Ife and Ilesa was sponsored by the senator in partnership with the National directorate of employment (NDE).

Speaking at the opening ceremony Fadahunsi reiterated his commitment to empowering the constituents and reducing poverty to the bearest minimum.

The lawmaker, who was represented by one of his aides, Hon. Wole Aofolaju, announced to the participants the take off grants each trainee will receive at the end of the training

Over 300 youths and women were trained in various trades ranging from soap making, bleach making, creams and other household needs.

The senator also promised better collaboration with NDE and other similar agencies in 2021 for training and Empowerment for more members of his constituents.

“This is not the best of time for our nation in terms of insecurity and poverty and people of goodwill must coalesce efforts with the governments to fight these scourges.

“Several cases of kidnappings, killings, robberies, insurgency, banditry are being reported daily across the six geo political zone and these are predominant among the jobless youths.

“In the past, begging was seen as a sacrilegeous act in some parts of this country. But today, it is gradually being elevated to a statecraft. Virtually everybody have been turned into beggars, because of poverty.

“It is not that our people, especially the youth are lazy, they are not. But many of them are jobless. Those who have jobs don’t have enough financial support to elevate it to a dependable status. That is why we are doing this empowerment.

“We are not only going to train the women and youths, we are going to support them with cash and equipment, so that they can stand on their own and become employers of labour rather than job seekers”.

Senator Fadahunsi admonished the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity to alleviate poverty and crime in the society.
