Osun State Youth Development Commission Bill has today passed second reading at the State House of Assembly.

The bill which is sponsored by the lawmaker representing Ilesha East State Constituency was first presented at plenary on 4th March, 2020.

The commission upon establishment will be the policy-making and coordinating body for all youth-related institutions, programs, projects and activities of the Government.

It will also provide leadership in the setting of priorities and direction for all youth promotion and development programmes and activities, among others.

In his remarks, the Speaker of the 7th Assembly who doubles as the sponsor of the bill, said these are desperate times for us as a people considering the huge financial burden on the State, the dwindling allocation due to the fall in price of crude oil and the coronavirus pandemic raving the economy.

“An established Youth Development Commission will pull resources together to implement youth oriented projects and programmes of the State Government. Economically, our youths are the most hit during this pandemic period, the index of job being lost and will still be lost is unthinkable. The law upon passage will redefine the employment policy of the State and also train our youths on survival jobs as the State wriggles out of this period.” he concluded.
