The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye has charged the youths of the country to be responsible on social media as this will go a long way in maintaining and ensuring peace.

Owoeye made this known yesterday while delivering his address at a public lecture that was organised by National Association of Osun State Students (NAOSS), which was themed ; “Good governance & Public Security, a pathway to Economic development.”

He said “Social Media has been turned into an instrument of negatively promoting exaggerated forms of criminalities. New media exaggerations are not only bad, but dangerous because they heightens tension.”

He however posited that the contemporary media would be of great advantage if issues are based on facts and confirmed before getting such issue posted online.

The lawmaker maintained that Nigeria belongs to everyone, therefore the development of the country should be everyone’s watchword and shouldn’t be left for the government alone to do.

Owoeye however commended the effort of the organisers of the event for channeling the strength as an energetic youth towards organizing a life-changing and nation’s developmental programme.
