Court remands man for threat to life

An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun, on Thursday, remanded a 50-year-old man, Adebolu Oluwanifemi for alleged threat to life and breach of peace.

The magistrate, Mr Olukunle Owolawi, who refused the defendant bail and ordered his remand at the Ile-Ife prison custody, adjourned the case until June 13 for further hearing.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Abdullahi Emmanuel, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on June 3 at about 3 p.m. at Ooni of Ife’s palace in Ile-Ife.

Emmanuel said that the defendant conspired with others now at large to commit felony to wit: breach of public peace.

He said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner that could lead to a breach of peace by causing panic among people living in Toro village via Ile-Ife.

Emmanuel said the defendant threatened the life of the appointed Baale of Toro and the entire villagers as well as making the place ungovernable for them.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections: 86, 249 (d) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy, breach of peace and threat to life.
