I’ll build bridge across all divides – Osun New Speaker

The newly elected speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye Oladimeji Adigun has assured the people of the State particularly his colleagues that he would use his position to be a bridge builder across all divide and ensure the harmonization of all views in order to deliver their electoral promises as true representatives of the people.

Owoeye dropped this hint while delivering his maiden speech earlier today at the inaugural plenary session held at the Osun State House of Assembly complex in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

In his words, “the politics that characterized electioneering processes should be put behind us, it is now time for us to unite regardless of our political affiliation in the pursuit and realization of good governance for our dear state.” he said.

Earlier, the inauguration and election of the principal officers of Osun 7th House of Assembly was conducted by the clerk at the inaugural plenary session held at the State House of Assembly complex.

Immediately after the clerk read the letter of proclamation by Governor Gboyega Oyetola, he called for nomination into the office of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively. Hon. Tunde Olatunji from Ife North State constituency nominated Hon. Timothy Owoeye for the office of the Speaker while his motion was seconded by Hon. Mrs. Abioye Adejoke from Ifedayo State constituency.

While Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye, Hon. Femi Popoola was elected speaker and deputy speaker respectively, other Principal Officers are Olanrewaju Ajibola from Irewole State constituency, leader of the House, Hon. Kunle Akande from Olorunda State constituency, deputy leader, Hon Tunde Olatunji from Ife North, Chief Whip, Hon Abidemi Gbenga Ogunkanmi, Ayedire State constituency, deputy whip, Hon Ibirogba Babatunde Eleniyan from Egbedore State constituency as Osun West Whip, Hon Babatunde Komolafe from Atakumosa East & West as Osun East Whip, Hon Nasirudeen Olateju, from Irepodun/Orolu state constituency as Osun Central Whip.

However, the position of minority leader was filled by Hon. Babajide Kofoworola Nurudeen, representing Ede North State constituency.

Since the creation of Osun State, four speakers have presided over the legislature at different dispensations, they are Barrister Adewale Afolabi, Prof. Mojeed Alabi, Barrister Adejaro Bello and the immediate past speaker Dr. Najeem Salam.

In his good will message, the chairman of All progressive congress in the State, Prince Gboeyga Famodun called for peaceful coexistence and understanding among the newly inaugurated parliamentarian and admonished them to work with Governor Gboyega Oyetola for the development of the State at large.
