By Haleem Aigoro

Adun is one of the common savory snacks in Osogbo, Osun State. It is known to be a pleasant snack mostly predominant in Yoruba speaking areas in Nigeria especially in the South-Western Region. This is as a result of its delicious taste and savory aroma, made for a delightful delicacy.

Adun is sold primarily as a street snack, popularly seen at motor parks, garages, and often at festive events and traditional marriages.

The Snack has been a source of livelihood for both old and young people (particularly women) around Osogbo, Ikire, Gbongan, Ede, Owode, Ilesa, etc.

The snack is made from a combination of rusted corn flour, palm oil and various species, a variation of this snack contains fried red cowpeas.

Adun which can also be made domestically by using the following ingredients: roasted corn flour, palm oil, Salt and chili powder, is popular delicacy among Nigerians in diaspora.

Adun which is now been packaged and sold in stores, is a delicious and affordable sweet delicacy, that is why its called ‘Adun’, meaning ‘Sweetness’.

Lastly, as the demand for Adun increases, with standard and globally acceptable packaging, it could be another product which sells Nigeria to the world, and definitely Osogbo will be the center of it all.
