60 HECTARES COMMEMORATIVE TREE PLANTING FOR OGBENI @60

Osun Forest Reclamation Committee headed by Prof. Labo Popoola, veteran forester and Vice Chancellor, Osun State University, Osogbo and co-headed by Hon. Tunde Ajilore, Special Adviser to the Governor, State of Osun, Ogbeni, Rauf Aregbesola. The committee saddled with the responsibility of reclaiming the badly encroached forest reserves (Shasha, Ife F3, Ago-Owu, Owena, Oba-Hill and Ife-Odan) in Osun and to implement the content of the Osun Government’s White Paper on Shasha Forest reserve.

The committee plans to kick-start the re-afforestation process by planting sixty Hectares of Exotic trees in commemoration of the state Governor’s Sixtieth birthday and to appreciate his efforts and achievements on war against forest extinction, which includes but not limited to:

  1. Establishment of 120-hectare of plantation in all the forest reserves of Osun.
  2. Establishment of 61-Hectare commemorative plantation in honor of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his 61st
  3. Silviculture thinning 150-Hectare of exploited Teak plantation in the forest reserves.
  4. Partnering with sister state Ogun and Ondo to embark on Conservation and Eco-tourism project tagged OSO, wherein the three states’ contiguous forest reserves (Ondo- “Oluwa”, Osun- “Shasha”, Ogun- “Omo”) corridor is preserved for wildlife conservation. An initiative of Nigeria conservation Foundation.
  5. Establishment of 1-Hectare plantation of exotic trees in 150 selected secondary schools across the state and 10-Hectare in each of the two state Polytechnics
  6. Ecological survey of Oba-hills forest reserves with a view to changing its status to a game reserve.

A date in August 2017 is been selected for the event which promises to draw the high and mighty to Araromi, an enclave within Shasha forest reserve.
