The Nigerian Tennis Federation has lauded the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, for his love and support for the development of tennis in Osun State.
The Vice-President of the NTF, Mr. Yemi Owoseni, gave the commendation in Osogbo on Saturday at the final of the Ooni Adeyeye Ogunwusi Invitational Tennis Tournament organised by the Osogbo Tennis Club.
Owoseni said the monarch’s support for the game would further encourage more kids to develop interest in the sport.
He said, “We thank the Ooni for allowing tennis to be part of the activities to celebrate his first year anniversary on the throne.
“We thank him for supporting the Osogbo Tennis Club and for agreeing to make tennis part of his anniversary every year. This will encourage more youths to develop interest in tennis.”
The Ooni said he would support the OTC in its quest to build a new place and further develop the game, especially in the secondary schools.
The monarch lauded former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun, for attending the final.
Ooni said Nigerian youths should be given the opportunity to express themselves, saying Nigerians ranked among the best in any sector in the world.
Kwankwaso, who is a serving senator, urged leaders to support all sports to give all athletes a sense of belonging.
The President of OTC, Sam Oguntunde, called on all lovers of the game to support the club in its quest to revive tennis in the state.
