Fountain University loses Lecturer

A doctoral degree graduand of the University of Ilorin, Dr. Abdul-Hafeez Adedimeji, died yesterday morning, his day of graduation.

Adedimeji who bagged Ph.d degree in Arabic Studies was among the 166 doctoral degree students the University graduated yesterday.

Until his death, Adedimeji was a lecturer at the Fountain University, Osogbo, Osun State.

The Dean, Faculty of Post-Graduate Studies, Prof. Badmas Olanrewaju Yusuf, broke the sad news at the University auditorium, venue of the 32nd convocation of the University.

In all, a total of 8038 students graduated at the convocation which took place on Friday and Saturday.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdul-Ganiyu Ambali expressed, delight that the first degree graduands of yesterday were largely from the Sciences.

He said, “we cannot under estimate the significance of science in the development and transformation of human life and society.

The more scientists we have, the better positioned we are to confront the numerous challenges of our life on the surface of the earth. Sciences enable us to tame nature and the development the world has witnessed in all areas of life are largely as result of scientific breakthroughs and discoveries.”

He added “we also have the postgraduate graduands, who as experts in various disciplines,are expected to illuminate the path of scholarship and excellence further with their qualifications.”

He said the 2015/2016 academic session was remarkable for the University in many respects.

He said both the students and lecturers of the institution excelled in various academic competitions both in Nigeria and abroad.
