The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof. Ahmed Audi, has ordered the deployment of over 57,000 personnel to maintain peace nationwide during the Easter celebrations.
The Public Relations Officer of the Corps, Babawale Afolabi, said in a statement that the massive deployment, which included specialized tactical units and intelligence operatives, was designed to fortify national security and guarantee a peaceful holiday period for all citizens.
He said the deployment cut across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). He said it was a proactive measure to address potential security threats while ensuring absolute protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructures (CNAI) nationwide.
He explained that all Zonal Commanders, State Commandants, and Provosts of Colleges have been tasked by the Commandant General to oversee comprehensive security in their jurisdictions.
He noted that areas such as churches, shopping complexes, parks, and recreational centres would be under strict surveillance by the Corps patrols and undercover agents. He said pre-emptive action would be taken against troublemakers.
Prof. Audi underscored the importance of heightened vigilance and seamless coordination with other security agencies. He noted that swift information sharing and a rapid response to public reports are vital to the success of this operation.
“Our goal is a seamless and secure Easter season. We are working hand-in-hand with sister agencies to maintain order. I also urge parents and guardians to guide their children properly, ensuring they are not manipulated into engaging in activities that could disrupt public peace,” he said.
Furthermore, the Corps’ elite divisions, such as the Special Intelligence Squad (CG SIS), the Mining Marshals, the Special Female Squad (SFS), and the Crack Squad, have been placed on alert. These specialized teams are prepared to act decisively against any individual or group attempting to undermine the stability of the nation, Afolabi said.
The CG encouraged the general public to stay alert, support security efforts, and promptly report any suspicious behaviour to the nearest NSCDC post or security formation.
