The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State, on Tuesday, dismissed insinuations that there were shootings on the institution’s campus by suspected hoodlums.
A Facebook User had on Monday posted that some hoodlums suspected to be cultists were shooting around the campus over the ongoing Student Union Government, SUG, election in the school.
The Acting Director, Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Sola Lawal, in a statement on Tuesday, dismissed the allegations, warning the students against violence during the Students’ Union election.
According to Lawal, the incident the Facebook user possibly referenced was pockets of violence in some parts of the Odo-Eja area of Ede, added that the shooting had nothing to do with the institution.
He said, “The attention of the management of Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun State, has been drawn to a report of shootings within the Polytechnic environment, which is presently trending across different social media platforms.
“Setting the record straight, it is imperative to inform the general public that while we are not unaware of pockets of violence in some isolated parts of the Odo-Eja axis of the town on Monday, 3rd November, 2025, this development, however, has nothing to do with the Polytechnic Community.
“The purported shootings within the polytechnic environment are simply the mere imagination of the rumour peddlers, and are highly baseless and hugely unfounded, as it has nothing to do with the ongoing students’ union elections.”
The statement further said, “The polytechnic consequently advised members to “disregard the latest charade and illogical rumour capable of causing confusion within the citadel, especially in the minds of parents and guardians, please,” assuring that “management will not relent in its social responsibility to secure the Polytechnic environment from any threat.”
