The lawmaker representing Obokun state constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewumi Adeyemi, has criticised recent comments by United States President Donald Trump, which threatened possible military intervention in Nigeria and the suspension of aid.
The lawmaker described the remarks as “deeply concerning and diplomatically inappropriate,” stressing that no nation, regardless of power or influence, has the right to undermine the sovereignty of another.
Adeyemi while quoting Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter, he said, “All member states are obligated to refrain from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any country. Nigeria, as a sovereign member of the United Nations, is entitled to that protection.”
“Under Sections 217 and 218 of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution (as amended), only the President — acting within constitutional limits can authorise the deployment of the armed forces. No foreign entity can usurp this constitutional power,” he added.

Lamented the growing insecurity, hunger, unemployment, and disillusionment among citizens, describing them as symptoms of deeper governance failure.
“When governance becomes reactive rather than proactive, external powers begin to perceive vulnerability,” he warned.
Calling for renewed leadership and accountability, Adeyemi urged the Federal Government to take full responsibility for addressing Nigeria’s challenges.
“The time for excuses is long gone. Nigerians deserve leadership that is responsive, competent, and compassionate,” he said.
