A former head of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife, Professor Ademola Babalola, has been found dead in his residence.
The remote cause of his death is yet to be known. His corpse was discovered some days after in his residence.
A source close to the late Professor who craved anonymity said, “After the day’s work, he went home and all we heard was that his corpse was found on his bed two days later.”
Another lecturer, Olabisi Ayodele, said “Professor Babalola drove himself home and laid on his couch. He was found dead in his apartment. He was not stabbed to death but what we are suspecting is heart failure.”
However, Abiodun Olanrewaju, the University’s Public Relations Officer, denied rumours that the deceased was stabbed to death.
“When the news came to us, the security officers of the University went to his residence and had to force the door of the professor’s room to open. The cause of the death is still unknown as we await the result of the autopsy,” he said.
The deceased will be laid to rest on Thursday.
