Osun 2018: PDP submits Ademola Adeleke’s name to INEC

The National Working Committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has forwarded the name of governorship candidate of its party, Ademola Adeleke, to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of September 22 gubernatorial election.

The letter, dated Monday, July 23 and submitted on Tuesday, July 24 was signed by the National Chairman and National Secretary of the party, Uche Secondus and Ibrahim Tsauri respectively.

Adeleke was declared the winner of the Osun State PDP governorship primary which held last Saturday after he polled 1,569 ahead of his closest rival, Akin Ogunbiyi, who recorded 1,562 votes.

Ogunbiyi, who came behind Adeleke with only seven votes, had earlier rejected the result of primary election, alleging that the primary was fraught with malpractices, particularly violation of Section 177 (d) of the Nigerian constitution by Adeleke.

But the National leadership of the party took a step further by forwarding the name of the serving senator representing Osun West Senatorial district to the electoral umpire.

The letter read, “We wish to inform the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that Sen. Ademola Nurudeen Adeleke is the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP’s) candidate for the September 22, 2018 gubernatorial election in Osun State, having emerged winner of the Party’s gubernatorial primary conducted on Saturday July 21, 2018 and monitored by the commission.

“Please be informed that we shall be forwarding the name of Sen. Adeleke’s Running Mate in due course. Your cooperation in this regard will be highly appreciated.”
