By Editor

The Speaker, State of Osun House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Najeem Salaam has asked people of voting age to discharge their civic responsibility as citizens using their permanent voter’s card for recruitment of quality leadership at all levels in forthcoming  elections.

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Goke Butika, Dr. Najeem Salaam said though he acknowledges June 12 as Democracy day in Nigeria; nevertheless May 29 is equally significant as a day of crossover from military regime to civilian administration, asserting that the opportunity offered by this day must be taken by the people to rev the office of the citizen as an existential office, using vote wisely without inducent from politicians.

He said: “We have reached a phase in our political life in which the people who are electing politicians to manage their affairs must show interest on the way they want to be governed and who are elected to govern them. This is the best to way to recruit political leaders, this is the way to go, not offering votes for tagged price.”

Dr. Salaam in a related development, further urged politicians across the divides to eschew violence before, during and after election, saying election should be held under a carnival like atmosphere not  war, if participatory approach is to be achieved.
