The Speaker, State of Osun House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Najeem Salaam has expressed the readiness of the state parliament to come up with legislation that would democratise healthcare delivery in the state.
Dr. Salaam made the remark while addressing participants at a workshop on Osun Health Insurance Scheme, saying that the reformation of health sector would begin with redistribution of wealth that guarantees equality and equity and affordability in the sector, saying people must be made to partake in the scheme in order to improve on life expectancy.
He said: “I will certainly vote yes for any health scheme that gives people access to affordable healthcare and we shall some come up with the law that would ensure everyone in the state partakes in it, because if right to life is a fundamental right, right to affordable healthcare must be enforced in line with economic reality.”
Besides, Speaker Salaam further challenged healthcare givers, ministry, department and agencies in the health sector to prioritize research that will reveal the contending situation of the people at every nook and cranny of the state.
He reiterated that “stakeholders in the health sector must go extra mile to educate people on the outcome of periodical researches and it beholds on them to carry people at the remote areas along; health should not be made elitist; its delivery should be for everyone.
