Police Arraign 20-yr-old over Alleged Armed Robbery

A 20 year old man, Taofeek Popoola has been arraigned before an Osun Magistrate court sitting in Osogbo over alleged armed robbery on Monday 14, May 2018. Taofeek who was facing a three count charge had no legal representation.

The Prosecutor, Sergeant Temitope Fatoba informed the court that the accused person committed the offence on April 1,2018 at Iyaloja Area, Osogbo. He stated that the accused person who was in possession of a gun robbed one Mr. Adebisi Opeyemi of his Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with registration number BKN656QC valued N220, 000. He also stated that the accused person was in possession of the gun without license or authority.

Sergeant Fatoba further explained that the accused unlawfully had in his possession, three live cartridges and one expanded cartridge which the accused person could not give satisfactory account for. He concluded that the offence contravenes Section 27(1)b(ii) of the Fire Arm Act Cap. F 28 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

However, the accused person plead but his pleas were not considered due to the gravity of the crime in question. The Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Oloyade ordered that the accused person be remanded to Ilesha prison custody.

The case was adjourned to June 17, 2018.
