The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and member representing Irepodun/Orolu/Olorunda/Osogbo Federal Constituency in the House Of Representatives Rt. Hon. Sulaimon Lasun Yussuff has refuted the claim that the popular Ojutu Bridge has been abandoned by the Federal Government because of his non-commitment to the Project and his underrepresentation.
In a statement issued today by his media centre, it reveals that such a repulsive political commentary is a product of brutally cynical and calumnious campaign that has been launched against the personality of the Deputy Speaker in the last two years by his political detractors.
Reading in part, the statement says “Whereas it is not in the nature of Rt. Hon. Lasun Yussuff to engage in a petty discussion like one being peddled by some enemies of progress with blank record of individual achievements in community service; however, it is important we make this clarification so that innocent citizens of the State would not be swayed by this impishly but haphazardly cooked-up commentary.”
The Lasun Media Centre (LMC) further claims in the release that “the job of a Parliamentarian is strictly for law making. Nevertheless, owing to the nature of our peculiar political culture and orientation, it is not always a rarity that a responsible lawmaker goes beyond his primary responsibility of lawmaking to ensuring capital projects get to his constituency through unrelenting advocacy and decent lobbying of key stakeholders in the Parliament and in the Executive circle. The Deputy Speaker has successfully done this with the Ojutu Bridge project, he facilitated the award of the Project and ensured it was listed as one of the priority projects of the Federal Ministry Of Works.”
“While a Parliamentarian may use his clout to influence a project to be sited in his locality,” the release maintains, “it is practically impossible for him to dictate how such a Project would be funded, and how and which contractors would be mobilized to sites, these aspect fall absolutely within the purview of the Executive arm of the Government. So it is mischievous for some political merchants to put logic on its head in order to obtain an unmerited political gain.”
The statement also notes that: ” The Ojutu Bridge, like many of the Federal Government pet-projects scattered all over the country, is receiving adequate attention by the relevant government agency.Rt Hon Lasun Yusuff, through the camaraderie cooperation of his colleagues in the National Assembly, has ensured the Project is captured in the Government budget of the Projects to be implemented this year. The Contractors handling the Ojutu Bridge are currently on-site and it is instructive to note that two bases of the three bases of the bridge have been excellently cast while reinforcement for the final base is on-going.”
“We want to use the occasion of this statement to reassure the good citizens of our darling State that Rt Hon. Lasun Yussuff would not be deterred in his effort of drawing the federal government presence to the State. The people’s deep appreciation for all the previous projects done by Rt Hon. Yusuff Lasun is a motivation for him and he will never disappoint them. The construction of the 6.5km Oke-Ima road, building and asphalting of roads in Ilobu, the building of maternity centres in Ilobu and Osogbo, building of seven (7) units of fully furnished 32-room school building in Ilobu, Ifon, Erin and Osogbo, donation of start-up capital and seed money running to N60,000,000 for 600 participants in the empowerment training organised in 2017 among others, are some of the lofty interventions of the Rt Hon. Lasun Yussuff for his people which some nay-sayers have always downplayed.
The release concludes that “The trending idiocy, planted in the pubic sphere by some people aimed at impugning Rt. Hon. Lasun Yussuff’s integrity and reducing him to their putrid class of non-performing politicians, is an effort in futility because it has died on arrival.”
