Omisore: Mixed Reactions trail Police Invitation, as Adeleke Family keeps mum

By Funmi Olusanya

Mixed reactions have continued to trail the police invitation extended to Senator Iyiola Omisore over an alleged assault on Late Senator Isiaka Adeleke sometimes in 2014.

The invitation signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charger of Criminal Investigation, Umege Uzochukwu inviting Iyiola Omisore on the matter, obtained by our medium on Sunday reads: “You are invited to meet with the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in connection with a case of assault occasioning harm reported by late Senator Isiaka Adeleke against you.

The letter which made its way into the Social Media on Sunday was a subject topic for most users asking numerous questions as to the Why Now, 3 years after the incident happened and 6 months after the complainant had passed away.

Recall that during the last Osun West Senatorial By-Election, to the surprise of many political pundits, Otunba Omisore worked closely with the family of late Senator Isiaka Adeleke, where his brother, Senator Ademola Adeleke, emerge as a replacement to his brother at the hallowed chambers.

When our correspondent reached out to the spokesman of the Adeleke family, Mr. Dele Adeleke, to get the family’s reaction to the police invitation on the then enemy and now ally of the family, he told us the family is maintaining silence on the issue.

His message reads ”As a family we have chosen to maintain silence on this matter. At the right time and if necessary the Family will communicate our position”

Our correspondent while reaching out to some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) politicians within Osun State, they described the move as political that wouldn’t stand the test of time.  Though the few politicians we spoke with expressed support for the embattled politician, they however spoke on condition of anonymity.

We also gathered from unofficial sources that the Senator who received the police invitation late on Saturday, will be honouring it tomorrow.  Political observers are watching with keen interest as event unfolds.
