BREAKING: INEC declares Ademola Adeleke winner of Osun West Senatorial By-Election

With over 100% reporting, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Otunba Ademola Adeleke, winner of the Osun West Senatorial District By-Election. Ademola will replace his late brother, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, who died recently at the upper legislative chamber.

The electioneering process has been marred with allegations and counter allegations from both camps. The Governor of the State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, in last minute moves, took on the family of the Late Senator Isiaka Adeleke, questioning the sanity of their patriarch, Dr Deji Adeleke.

However, official results declared by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), indicates that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Candidate, Ademola Adeleke won in nine of the ten Local Government Areas where the election took place. The APC Candidate only won in his local government, Ejigbo. Of the 431, 674 registered voters for the election, only 171,575 were accredited.

Declaring the results and making the announcement, the returning officer for the election, Professor Laide Lawal,  from the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti, said that Otunba Ademola Adeleke of the PDP, having scored the highest number of votes and having certified the requirement of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.
