Victor Okeji’s unforgettable first-half overhead kick ensured Osun United Football Club maintained their home grip in the Nigeria National League with a 1-0 victory over hard fighting Delta Force Football Club.
Okeji scored with a spectacular bicycle kick in the 20th minute in style, redirecting a cross from Tosin Omoyele, with a picture-perfect overhead effort from beyond the penalty spot that cut Delta Force goalkeeper, Isah Ismail, napping.
But there was plenty of fight from Delta Force exchanges as Yomi Olaoke, Ogu Buchi, Onyeamobi Kingsley, and Hamza Sani went close to getting equalizer but Osun United was at their thrilling best to keep them at bay.
Osun United nearly made it 2-0 in the 63rd minute but Isah pulled a big save from Omoyele audacious strike from the edge of the box was parried inches wide.
Delta Force did not look like a team without confidence as they tried to probe the Omoluabi Giants but found little joy as Mojeed Yusuf cleared from goal line a fiery shot from Ufioma Ajanikolo.
Delta Force coach, Peter Nienketen, was left frustrated when Onyeamobi Kingsley, jabs over the bar a sitter at the tale end of the contest.
Osun United have garnered six points from possible twelve points and will be guest to First Bank Football Club on Wednesday in one of the Week 5 contest of the Nigeria National League.
