The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba ABdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi has described the Ile-Ife mayhem as uncalled for and urged indigenes and residents of the ancient town to embrace peace in the interest of national unity.
Oba Akanbi said this in his condolence message to Osun state governor Rauf Aregbesola, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi and the Hausa community at Sabo Ile-Ife over the recent bloody crisis in Ife.
The Oluwo’s condolence message was contained in a press statement issued by his Press Secretary, Alli Ibraheem and made available to journalists in Osogbo, the state capital.
Oluwo lauded Ooni for his intervention that nip further crisis in the bud, adding that Oba Ogunwusi demonstrated the attribute of a peaceful ruler and called on Nigerians to uphold the unity that Yoruba traditional rulers were preaching.
The monarch described the mayhem as avoidable, imploring Nigerians to tolerate one another to promote national unity.
Oba Akanbi also commended Aregbesola for his timely intervention by deploying adequate security force to the scene to maintain laws and order
“I commend Ogbeni Aregbesola’s efforts and the police and other security agencies on the management of the crisis in Ile-Ife. Nigerians should learn to live together in unity. That will portray us as hospitable citizens of the country,” he said.
