Newly appointed Osun United chief coach, Duke Udi has revealed that he is ready to make impact on his new assignment with the Omoluabi Giants in the upcoming Nigeria National League (NNL) season.
Speaking at his unveiling at the Executive Chambers of the Osun State Government House in Abeere, Udi made his first public appearance as coach of the darling team of Osun and described his new job as the “biggest challenge of his coaching career.
Udi further outlined his vision for the club, stating that his first move is to instil major tactical philosophy and winning mentality into the team, as the players resume training on Wednesday at the Osogbo City Stadium.
“I was the chief coach at Rangers and Giwa FC and those experiences gave me a lot of desire to want to do more. I know the fans here in Osun expect so much from me and that puts me under a lot of pressure. We can’t afford to let them down,” Udi told Saharareporterssport.com
“We want to go up as soon as possible, I have my own philosophies and the players on ground will determine the style of play of the team for the new season. Every coach wants to win and mine isn’t different.
“We have a lot of strong teams in the NNL and we have to start off on a very positive note. We need to work hard to get results and everyone needs to be switched on the same direction” Duke said during his unveiling.
Also speaking at the event, the chief of staff to the Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola hailed the appointment of Duke Udi as chief coach of Osun United and said sports is very important to human life, which is major reason why the state government is committed to giving sports development and Osun United the needed support.
According to him, despite the scarcity of funds in the state, the state government ensured that the club was provided with needed funds to achieve required results and perform optimally.
In his own remarks, former NFF general secretary and chairman of Osun United FC, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi said the new coach was a fantastic player during his playing days, he also played a vital role in the success achieved by Shooting Stars in the mid-90s, revealing that he was picked on merit ahead of other applicants that applied for the coaching job.
Meanwhile, the 41-year-old former Giwa FC and Rangers International FC coach, will be assisted by Bayo Adesina, Kazeem Oseni and Ajayi Obe, as assistants coaches, while Tunji Baruwa, will also serve as goalkeeper trainer.
