The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Osun State chapter, has launched a camp for her members, who are in need; calling it ‘Internally Displaced Pensioners’ in the state.
The Pensioners Chairman of Forum of 2011/2012, Mr Omoniyi Ilesanmi set the camp close to the Popular Mandela Freedom Park via Old garage Osogbo.
The scores of Pensioners including some of aged could hardly walk are present at the camp, watched over by 22 armed policemen.
The pensioners were seated under the canopies erected and their leaders served them cooked rice while bags of uncooked rice were also brought to give out to the pensioners.
Ilesanmi said “many of the retirees had died due to severe hunger caused by lack of money while others due to inablility to afford treatment cost because the state government was owing them nine months arrears”.
At the camp, Doctors and medical practitioners were there to check the blood pressure of the retirees and their general medical check up.
One of the retired Judge in the State High Court, Justice Olamide Oloyede, who was present at the camp said care for the aged was one of the constitutional provisions.
At the camp one of the banner sighted by our correspondent reads ” You are welcome to Osun State Internally Displaced Pensioners (IDPS) camps, The first of its kind in Nigeria. This is to expose Rauf Aregbesola led Osun State Government”.
