Ondo rally: Tinubu, Ambode, Aregbesola’s absence inconsequential —APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) says the absence of the national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu as well as the Governors of Lagos, Osun and Oyo States at the grand finale of the gubernatorial rally in Ondo State did not make any difference.

The chairman of the APC Gubernatorial Campaign Organisation in Ondo State, Governor Simon Lalung of Plateau State, said this in an interview with State House correspondents on Monday after meeting behind closed-doors with President Muhammadu Buhari.

Tinubu and Governors Akinwumi Ambode (Lagos State), Rauf Aregbesola (Osun) and Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo) respectively were absent at the Saturday’s rally in Akure where Buhari canvassed votes for the party’s flag bearer for the November 26 gubernatorial poll, Rotimi Akeredolu.

Akeredolu had, at the APC governorship primaries conducted in Akure on September 3, defeated Segun Abraham who was believed to have been endorsed by Tinubu.

Ambode, Aregbesola and Ajimobi are perceived to be the only APC governors in the South-west that are loyal to Tinubu.

Addressing journalists yesterday, Lalung said: “To the party, their absence did not make any difference.”

The governor said Tinubu had attributed his absence to ill-health and that he and other absentees had apologised to the party.
