The Senator representing Osun West, Lere Oyewumi, has empowered 600 artisans across the 10 local government areas of the Senatorial District with a total of N30 million.
Each of the 600 beneficiaries drawn from the informal sector, according to a statement by his media office, received N50,000 cash grant to boost their businesses.
Oyewumi, who is the Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, explained that the initiative targets tailors, mechanics, carpenters, hairdressers and technicians, as part of efforts to cushion economic hardship and stimulate grassroots economic growth.
The lawmaker noted that the intervention was designed to inject capital directly into the grassroots economy and strengthen local productivity.
“Artisans represent the backbone of local productivity. Direct financial support remains one of the most effective tools to offset operational costs, acquire critical needs, and build sustainable livelihoods at the grassroots level,” he said.
