At least five operatives of the Osun State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, have reportedly been arrested by the police in connection with the murder of a political associate of Governor Ademola Adeleke, Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir.
Oyeyemi was killed at Mayfair Park, Ile-Ife, after a peace meeting involving members of the Accord Party on September 13, 2026, where discussions were held on the new leadership structure proposed for the party in the state.
Following the murder, some individuals were reportedly identified as suspects, while members of the deceased’s gang, said to belong to the Aye confraternity, allegedly threatened to retaliate.
A top security source told The Nation that five Amotekun operatives and other suspects had been arrested in connection with the killing.
“Efforts intensified by police have led to the arrest of five Amotekun Corps and other suspects in relation to the murder of Emir in Ile-Ife. They should parade them very soon,” the source said.
A close associate of the deceased also alleged that three of the assailants who carried out the attack were wearing Amotekun camouflage at the scene.
The Public Relations Officer of the Amotekun Corps, Yusuf Idowu, however, declined to comment on the alleged arrest.
“We don’t have any reaction to the development. I will get back to you later,” he said.
The Osun State Police Command confirmed that some suspects had been arrested in connection with Oyeyemi’s death but said it could not yet establish whether any Amotekun personnel were among those arrested.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the command was conducting investigations into the incident.
“We are conducting a series of investigations; part of it is the death of one Emir. Some people have been arrested in connection with that. I can’t specifically say if any of Amotekun’s personnel are involved; that is why I am saying that by Monday, if I get to the office, I will clarify things,” Ojelabi said.
The police said investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and determine those responsible.
