The opposition All Progressives Congress in Osun State has dismissed claims by members of the Accord party that the Court of Appeal has sacked local government chairmen elected on the platform of the APC in 2022.
The APC, in a statement by its spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, described the claim as disinformation about court proceedings and warned that peddling such falsehood constitutes a criminal offence capable of triggering crisis in the state.
Olabisi clarified what transpired at the Court of Appeal in Abuja on Monday, saying the court only mentioned the consolidated appeals relating to the Osun local government matter.
“Throughout the court proceedings, no appeal was heard, no appeal was dismissed, and no appeal was struck out, as is being mischievously spread through publications and voice messages on social media,” he said.
According to him, the appellate court adjourned the consolidated appeals till November 11, 2026, for hearing.
The party called on the judiciary to sanction those behind the false reports to serve as deterrent, adding that security agencies should act.
“It is worthwhile for the judiciary to make scapegoats from this unhealthy development if only to serve as a deterrent to others who may relish in feeding innocent members of the public with falsehoods.
“If not that Accord members and their supporters are jittery; there shouldn’t have been any basis for them to misinform the public on court proceedings.
“It will not be out of tune for the police in Osun State to collaborate with the judiciary with a view to investigating, arresting and prosecuting all the disgruntled elements responsible for the dissemination of falsehoods,” the statement noted.
The APC urged its supporters and the public to disregard what it called barefaced lies by Accord members, insisting that the reinstated APC chairmen and councillors remain in charge and in control of council administration in the state.
