The University of Ilesa (UNILESA) has sealed a strategic academic collaboration with the University of Lomé, Togo, to strengthen Chinese Language education and deepen international cooperation.
The partnership, according to a statement by Babatunde Fanawopo, Senior Assistant Registrar, Corporate Services & Information Unit, was formalised with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday, September 28, 2026, at the University of Lomé.
The MoU was signed by the Vice-Chancellor of UNILESA, Professor Taiwo Olufemi Asaolu, FCA, and the President of the University of Lomé, Professor Adama Mawulé Kpodar.
Under the agreement, degree students of the Chinese Studies programme in UNILESA will undertake a one-year intensive immersion programme at the Confucius Institute of the University of Lomé.
The programme is designed to expose students to Chinese language, culture and traditions in an authentic learning environment, thereby enhancing their linguistic proficiency and cross-cultural competence.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Professor Asaolu described the collaboration as a significant milestone in the university’s internationalisation drive.
He noted that beyond language immersion, the MoU lays the foundation for expanded cooperation between the two institutions, including joint research initiatives, staff and student exchange programmes and other mutually beneficial academic engagements.
On his part, Professor Kpodar welcomed the partnership and reaffirmed his institution’s commitment to its successful implementation.
The collaboration is expected to enrich the academic experience of UNILESA students and further strengthen ties between the two West African universities.
