Residents of Ijaregbe, Alatise and adjoining communities in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State have called for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s urgent intervention following the collapse of the Ilesa-Ijaregbe link road.
The road, a major shorter route connecting Ilesa to Ijebu-Jesa, was washed off by flood on Monday, leaving a wide crater after the Alatise axis as muddy water overflowed the broken culvert.
A resident, Olamide Adesuyi, said the development has left many stranded and forced commuters to take longer routes.
“This road was constructed by former Governor Rauf Aregbesola, and it has been easing movement for us. Now we cannot go to Ilesa where we work, where our children go to school and where we trade. We are forced to take a longer route through Ijebu-Jesa with double transport fare. Government should please help us before we are completely cut off,” he said.
Another resident, Mrs Funke Adepoju, warned that the collapsed culvert poses danger to lives.
“We are appealing to Governor Adeleke, our Senator representing Osun East, our House of Representatives member for Ijesa North/South and our House of Assembly members to come to our aid. The culvert is broken, and flooding has taken over. If it rains again, it may claim lives. We need urgent intervention,” she said.
