The senatorial candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement for Osun Central Senatorial District, Ibraheem Adekunle, has alleged that his Peoples Democratic Party ticket was sold to the Senator representing the zone, Olubiyi Fadeyi, popularly known as Ajagunla.
Adekunle disclosed this while appearing on Western Television’s Morning Spring programme, where he spoke on why he left the PDP.
He said his defection from the PDP to the APM was something he never envisaged, noting that he had spent years building and sustaining the party in the state.
He said, “My defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the Allied Peoples Movement is something I never saw coming. I have been in the PDP for some years now, and we have done a lot of great things for the party.
“When the PDP had issues at the national level, we were there to ensure the party still stood in the state. Even when people left the PDP for the Accord Party, we stayed behind to keep the party standing.”
Adekunle disclosed that he emerged as the PDP senatorial candidate during the primary conducted in May 2026, but his name was not published by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
According to him, the name that appeared on INEC’s website was that of Senator Fadeyi, who he claimed contested under the All Progressives Congress and lost.
He said, “I emerged as the PDP senatorial candidate during the primary conducted in May 2026. But when it was time for my name to be published on the Independent National Electoral Commission’s website, it was not published.
“Instead, I found the name of someone else who contested the primary under the All Progressives Congress and lost, Senator Fadeyi Olubiyi.”
Adekunle alleged that his efforts to seek redress at the national secretariat of the party failed, adding that monetary inducement influenced the decision.
“I reached out to the national leadership to complain, but it was rock bottom, and I realised that a lot of envelopes had exchanged hands,” he added.
osun.life reports that Olubiyi, who was elected under the PDP, defected to the APC in 2025 alongside the senator representing Osun East, Francis Fadahunsi and three House of Representatives members.
Senator Olubiyi, however, returned to the PDP after losing the APC primary election to a former gubernatorial aspirant, Mr Kunle Adegoke SAN.
Efforts to get the reaction of the lawmaker to the allegation proved abortive at the time of this report.
