The Majority Leader of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Kofoworola Adewunmi, has said government alone cannot achieve a sustainably clean Osun State, stressing that environmental sanitation is a shared responsibility.
Hon. Adewunmi, in a post on his Facebook page, noted that he made this known on Friday, September 18, 2026, while presiding over an engagement with the Osun State Ministry of Environment and Sanitation and relevant environmental stakeholders at the Assembly Complex, Osogbo.
According to him, the engagement was organised under the auspices of the House Committee on Environment and Sanitation, chaired by Hon. Folorunso Yemi Ogundare, member representing Ayedaade State Constituency.
He said he presided over the meeting on behalf of the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun.
According to Adewunmi, the engagement was convened to examine the environmental sanitation challenges confronting the state, understand the operational realities of those managing them, identify obstacles affecting effective service delivery, and determine practical steps towards achieving a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Osun.
He noted that a clean environment goes beyond the appearance of the streets, as it is fundamentally connected to public health, flood prevention, environmental sustainability, economic activity and the overall quality of life.
“A clean environment goes beyond the appearance of our streets. It is fundamentally connected to public health, flood prevention, environmental sustainability, economic activity, and the overall quality of life of our people.
“We therefore need a coordinated and sustained approach involving government institutions, local government authorities, environmental professionals, waste-management operators, community leaders, civil society organisations, businesses, and, importantly, residents,” he said.
