Osun senator urges government to prioritise local contractors in project execution

The Senator representing Osun West Senatorial District, Senator Lere Oyewumi, has urged governments at all levels to patronise local contractors to boost the economy.

The Deputy Senate Minority Leader made the call on Saturday during the flagging off of the construction of the 0.5-kilometre Akinola–Agbaraale Road project in Iwo, Osun State.

Oyewumi said government at all levels should prioritise local contractors in the execution of developmental projects across the state.

He argued that engaging indigenous contractors will help stimulate the local economy, create employment opportunities for residents, and promote sustainable development.

“I also urged that local contractors should be encouraged and given opportunities to handle developmental projects across the state, as this will help stimulate the local economy, create employment opportunities, and promote sustainable development,” the Senator said in a post on his Facebook page on Sunday.

Oyewumi added that his commitment to local content is already being demonstrated in his constituency projects.

“All my projects in Osun West Senatorial District are being executed by contractors from Osun West,” he stated.
