A civic group, Dee Osun Monitors, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to order the release of statutory allocations due to local governments in Osun State.
The group said the prolonged withholding has crippled development at the grassroots.
In an open letter signed by Coordinator Prince Jide Akinyooye and Secretary Comrade Victor Olurotimi, the organisation said primary healthcare centres, rural roads, basic education and community security are suffering because councils cannot function optimally.
The group commended the President for what it described as an impartial role during the 2026 Osun governorship election, which led to the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Dee Osun Monitors also praised the Independent National Electoral Commission for professionalism and transparency, saying the conduct of the poll has boosted public confidence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The organisation expressed worry that the situation in Osun appears unique, with Nigerians and the international community asking why “impunity is being allowed to thrive for political reasons.”
It warned that the development poses a grave danger to democracy, federalism and peace in the Southwest and Nigeria at large.
Dee Osun Monitors said the people voted for continuity because they want peace, development and respect for constitutional order, and that the President’s timely action would be remembered as statesmanship that places the people above politics.
“Dee Osun Monitors believes in one Nigeria and in your commitment to fairness, justice, and federalism. We trust that you will act in the best interest of the people of Osun and of democracy,” the letter concluded.
