A total of 1,906,390 eligible voters in Osun State will go to the polls today to elect the next governor, who will lead the state for the next four years.
According to official records, Osun has 2,339,233 registered voters. Of that number, 1,906,390 collected their PVCs and are expected to vote across 332 wards and 3,763 polling units spread across the state’s 30 local government areas.
Fifteen political parties are on the ballot, all vying for the seat at the Bola Ige House. However, the race is widely viewed as a three-way contest between incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, who is seeking re-election, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and Dr Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
Across markets, motor parks and town halls, voters say the issues that will decide their choice are jobs, education, healthcare, infrastructure and the cost of living.
With polling set to open this morning, all eyes are on the 1.9 million voters in Osun.
Their decision at the ballot today will determine who takes charge of the state’s affairs and sets the agenda for the next four years.
