Oath-taking video: Adeleke has no link to it – Imole Campaign Council replies APC

The Imole Campaign Council, the group working for the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke, has dismissed allegations linking the governor to an oath-taking video circulating online, describing the claim by the Osun APC as “laughable and defeatist.”

In a statement on Friday signed by its Media Committee Chairman, Rep. Bamidele Salam, the council said the governor has absolutely no connection whatsoever with the video or any activity requiring citizens to swear oaths ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

It noted that it is still examining the authenticity, source and circumstances of the video.

It, however, stressed that Governor Adeleke neither authorised, participated in, directed nor endorsed the taking of any oath for political purposes.

“Governor Adeleke is a democrat who believes fundamentally in the freedom of citizens to make their political choices according to their conscience.

“He does not need oaths, threats, intimidation or any form of coercion to secure the support of the people of Osun State,” the statement noted.

The Council argued that the governor enjoys broad support based on his record of performance and personal connection with the people.

It accused the APC of trying to convert an unverified social media video into a campaign issue because it is confronted with the reality of rejection by the Osun electorate.

“Rather than engage Governor Adeleke’s administration on roads, healthcare, education, workers’ welfare and infrastructure, the opposition has resorted to allegations based on videos whose provenance remains unclear,” the Council stated.

The statement urged the APC to stop looking for excuses in videos and prepare for the verdict of Osun voters on August 15.
