2027: Makinde, Fayemi, Oyinlola meet Obasanjo in Abeokuta

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde met on Sunday with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, alongside former governors of Ekiti and Osun states, Kayode Fayemi, and former Osun governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The meeting, held behind closed doors, took place at Obasanjo’s Penthouse residence within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL).

Makinde disclosed details of the visit in a post on his Facebook page, stating that discussions centred on key national issues ahead of the 2027 general election.

“Earlier today (Sunday), we visited Baba, His Excellency Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, in Abeokuta. Our discussions centred on important national issues in view of the upcoming general election.

“We appreciate Baba for his wise counsel at this crucial time in our nation’s history,” Makinde wrote.

Makinde is the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) for the 2027 election.

Oyinlola is a prominent stakeholder of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the platform under which Obasanjo served two terms as President, while Fayemi is a leading figure in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Fayemi has, on several occasions, made remarks perceived as critical of the administration of President Bola Tinubu and the ruling APC, fuelling speculation about his political stance ahead of the 2027 polls.
