The Gubernatorial Campaign Council of the African Democratic Congress in Osun State, ADC-GCC, has condemned what it described as the “unruly conduct” of members of the ruling Accord Party and opposition All Progressives Congress at the Independent National Electoral Commission stakeholders’ meeting held in Osogbo on Wednesday.
The council, in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Hon. Nurein Adebisi, on Thursday, said the meeting, which was meant to discuss the integrity of the electoral process, was disrupted by shouting, intimidation, and attempts to hijack the proceedings for political theatrics.
Adebisi said the behaviour exhibited by the Accord and APC members is dangerous to democracy and disrespectful to the people of Osun State.
“What should have been a civil engagement to discuss the integrity of our electoral process was disrupted by shouting, intimidation, and attempts to hijack the proceedings for political theatrics,” the statement read.
The ADC said, in contrast, its delegation conducted itself peacefully and upheld decorum.
“We believe that politics should be about ideas, not noise, and about service, not chaos,” Adebisi said.
Adebisi said Osun people deserve politics without violence and meetings without molestation, stressing that every political party, regardless of size, should be allowed to express itself without fear.
“The ADC will not be provoked into violence. We choose peace, decorum, and the rule of law,” he concluded.
