Governor Ademola Adeleke has congratulated members and supporters of the Accord Party following the Court of Appeal judgment nullifying the Federal High Court order seeking the deregistration of the party.
Describing the judgment as a victory for democracy and the rule of law, Adeleke said the ruling has ended the uncertainty deliberately created around the existence of Accord as a political party.
In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor noted that many members had lived in suspense due to what he called a desperate attempt to undermine the party through the courts.
“Justice has prevailed. The Court of Appeal has reaffirmed the constitutional safeguards guiding the regulation of political parties. There is now no doubt whatsoever about the Accord’s legal status and our participation in the August 15 governorship election,” Adeleke said.
The Governor urged members not to be distracted by failed attempts to create confusion ahead of the poll, but to focus on grassroots mobilisation.
“The only hurdle placed on our path by those who wished to create an empty goalpost for themselves has now been crushed. This victory belongs to the people of Osun State and every loyal member of our great party who remained steadfast despite the campaign of fear and uncertainty. I congratulate every Accord member for keeping faith. Now is the time to intensify our mobilisation efforts across every polling unit, ward, and community,” he stated.
