Osun ADC seeks independent audit of Lameco flyover

The Gubernatorial Campaign Council of the African Democratic Congress in Osun State has demanded an immediate independent technical assessment of the newly commissioned Lameco Flyover in Osogbo following reports of defects barely weeks after its opening.

ADC-GCC, in a statement on Monday by its spokesperson, Hon. Nurein Adebisi, said public safety must override politics.

It described the observed damages as proof that politics and optics have overtaken professionalism in the delivery of the project.

“A flyover is a structural asset that carries thousands of lives daily. It must be guided by science, standards, and engineering integrity and not by party or political sensationalism,” Adebisi said.

The ADC-GCC proposed a comprehensive audit to cover “structural integrity tests including load capacity, deflection and vibration; material quality tests on concrete, steel and asphalt; and a drainage and expansion joint audit to check for design flaws that could cause water accumulation and early deterioration.”

The council also asked for a comparison of actual construction with approved drawings and the Bill of Quantities.

To drive the process, the party urged the Osun Chapter of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, COREN, the Nigerian Institution of Structural Engineers and other relevant bodies to set up an independent panel and publish its findings and recommendations. It also called on government to grant the panel unfettered access to project documents, site and contractors.

“Osun people deserve infrastructure that is safe, durable, and built to standard. We cannot afford another collapse or avoidable tragedy because we chose politics over professionalism,” Adebisi stated.
