The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday said it will deploy 4,427 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines for the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
The commission also disclosed that it has received about 80 per cent of the non-sensitive materials required for the poll, which have already been distributed across its offices in the state.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mrs Oluwatoyin Babalola, stated this while speaking at a press conference at the commission’s headquarters in Osogbo.
Babalola said INEC was fully prepared to conduct a free, fair, inclusive and transparent election that reflects the will of the people of Osun State.
She said 3,763 BVAS machines would be deployed across all polling units, while 664 additional devices would be kept as backups.
“A total of 3,763 BVAS will be deployed across all the polling units for the election, while 664 BVAS will be set aside as backups,” she said.
Babalola explained that the BVAS devices would be used to upload polling unit results directly to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV), enhancing transparency and enabling the public to access election results from each polling unit.
She added that all the BVAS devices had been charged and were awaiting configuration, which would be carried out closer to the election.
The REC also said the commission had identified all sensitive and non-sensitive materials required for the poll, noting that about 80 per cent of the non-sensitive materials had already been received, distributed to local government areas and sorted into Registration Areas (RAs) and polling units.
