UNILESA denies ‘regional bias’ claims, says recruitment based on merit, not ethnicity

The Management of the University of Ilesa, Osun State, has dismissed allegations that staff employment at the institution is skewed in favour of a particular region of Osun State.

The school described the claims as incorrect and misleading, adding that appointments and recruitment are strictly guided by institutional needs, approved establishment, academic and professional qualifications, competence, and due process.

In a statement signed by the Senior Assistant Registrar, Corporate Services and Information Unit, Mr. Babatunde Fanawopo, the management said, “The University wishes to state unequivocally that this impression is incorrect and misleading.”

It added that while inclusion and diversity remain essential considerations, “factors such as ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation do not form part of the criteria for engagement into vacant positions.”

The university stated that it remains committed to fairness, equity, and the representation of all parts of Osun State, in line with existing government policy and the Federal Character principle.

The management urged members of the public to seek accurate information and avoid misinformation and misrepresentation.
