Don slams Osun Gov over curses on lawmaker, says governorship office demeaned

A Professor of Medical Anthropology and Development Studies, University of Ibadan, Prof. Aderemi Ajala, has berated Governor Ademola Adeleke for cursing the Director General of the APC Governorship Campaign Committee, Hon. Wole Oke, during a visit to Esa Oke.

Adeleke had rained curses on Oke while sympathising with the family of Accord Party member Ajayi Rogba, who was allegedly shot dead by suspected political thugs.

Describing the governor’s conduct as very impolite and an absurdity on the entirety of Osun indigenes, Prof. Ajala said the outburst had brought the office of the governor into disrepute.

“For whatever reason, it is very, very impolite. It is an absurdity on the entirety of Osun indigenes,” the professor stated.

“The governor has failed to recognise the fact that every citizen belongs to him as the number one citizen of the state. And even those that are condemned to prison, they are still citizens, and so the governor does not have the ethic of, you know, cursing anybody for whatever cause,” he noted.

Prof. Ajala argued that the incident reflects a broader failure of leadership in the state.

“What happened tells you the level at which the governance has been discredited in Osun State. The level at which we have committed ourselves to persons who are ignorant of governance in Osun State,” he said.

He further stated that Adeleke had lost the ethical value of the governorship, warning that the dignity of the office may take time to recover.

The professor accused the governor of resorting to uncultured language due to political pressure from the APC ahead of the August 15, 2026, election.

“For a governor of a state to be ranting is even another. Osun State has actually taken for granted all so many other vices which the governor has actually exposed himself to. Dancing publicly, talking recklessly, and then cursing other people,” he added.

Prof. Ajala noted that the case involving Rogba’s death “has not been investigated, adding that the governor ought to allow the security agencies to do their work before resorting to cursing Oke.
