Osun APC suspends Oriade canvassers’ inauguration over Ede accident, mourns party member

The All Progressives Congress Governorship Campaign Council in Osun State has suspended the inauguration of Oriade Local Government Unit canvassers, citing the fatal road accident in Ede and the recent killing of one person in Esa-Oke.

The event, earlier scheduled for Thursday, 25th June 2026, was postponed “until further notice,” according to an official notice signed by Hon. Oluwole Oke, Director-General of the Osun APC Campaign Council, on Thursday.

It would be recalled that a trailer that was said to have lost control, rammed into the APC members who were doing a walk to victory for the gubernatorial candidate of the party, Mr Bola Oyebamiji, on Wednesday afternoon, killing one person and injuring seven.

The suspension follows “the unfortunate incident that occurred today in Ede, where a truck allegedly associated with the PDP/Accord collided with our procession, resulting in the tragic loss of lives and leaving several of our members injured,” the notice stated.

The party said at least nine members are currently receiving medical attention.

“Leadership has taken immediate steps to ensure that all affected members receive adequate care and support,” Oke said.

The Campaign Council urged members “to remain calm, united, and law-abiding as we navigate this moment with dignity, restraint, and compassion.”
