The Accord Party in Osun State has accused the opposition All Progressives Congress of plotting political killings of its leaders, pushing to compromise the electoral commission ahead of the August 15 gubernatorial election.
The party called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ignore and reject what it described as the APC’s “failed plans.”
In a statement on Sunday by Osun Accord chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, the party said it had all the details of an alleged evil political meeting held at the residence of a chieftain of the APC in Ila Orangun, where plans were allegedly made on how to compromise the election.
Akande, who condemned the alleged resort to violence and unethical strategies of the Osun APC, urged President Bola Tinubu to call the opposition leaders to order.
“We are firstly disappointed that the calibre of people gathered at the said meeting could descend as low as to contemplate political killings of prominent Accord leaders, as well as other illegal and unconstitutional actions towards compromising the August elections,” Akande said.
“This development is a reprehensible descent into political perdition which has further reinforced the imminent defeat of Bola Oyebamiji on August 15th,” he added.
The statement further described the APC in Osun as a ‘ghost of its old self’, noting that Governor Adeleke, who was in the best position to lead the APC back to its glory, was blocked from joining after an invitation from President Tinubu.
“Governor Ademola Adeleke actually yielded to the invitation to join President Tinubu for the re-election project, but the Marine Minister blocked him despite interventions by prominent presidency officials. The minister appears to prioritise his undeclared agenda against even the best interests of the President. Osun APC is today the ghost of its old self,” Akande said.
The Accord party chairman charged Osun people to remain vigilant and unwavering in the defence of their rights to vote and be voted for, adding that “no stone will be left unturned to protect the sanctity and integrity of the electoral process.”
